major car crash in the Bryan and College Station, TX area

When you’re involved in an auto accident, it can naturally be a very stress-inducing situation. Even if the accident in volvesonly property damage and no other vehicles, there is still a checklist of things to do following an accident that will make the repair process run as smoothly as possible, and a reliable body shop can help you along the way.

First and foremost, never leave the scene. Even in minor accidents, doing so is against the law.

Secondly, make sure both you and your vehicle are in a place that can be clearly seen by other drivers on the road to lessen the chance of another accident. Turn on your four-way flashers if possible or setup road flares if you have them. However, unless they are interfering with traffic, do not move any vehicles involved in an accident. It’s a good idea to keep a flashlight in your car in case it’s dark out and your lights are not functioning.

Then, call the police to make a report of the accident. Most insurance companies will require a report anyway. Once the officer arrives, tell the truth to the best of your recollection. If you can’t remember something, tell the officer so instead of trying to come up with an explanation. If you aren’t sure if you’re hurt, don’t tell the officer “no” if asked; say that you aren’t sure. Keep in mind that many injuries stemming from an auto accident can take some time to develop symptoms.

Finally, take photos of the accident scene if you have a camera with you. Photograph any visible injuries and be sure to seek medical attention for them as soon as possible. If there is another vehicle involved, exchange contact and insurance information with the driver. Keep a file with all accident-related information for easy organization and access.
