Choosing the Right Car Paint

It’s much more than just personal preference!

Has your vehicle recently been in an accident? Areyou looking to put a fresh coat of paint on an antique vehicle? Or perhapsyou’re just wondering what color the new vehicle you plan to buy should be.Although you’ll certainly want to choose a color that you like, personal tasteisn’t the sole factor when determining a car paint color!

Although some don’t think it’s very fair, autoinsurance companies will often charge a higher premium for a vehicle of a colorthat’s seen as “risky,” such as red and yellow. Contrarily, insurance companieswill sometimes offer lower premiums for vehicles that are white or silver incolor, as these colors tend to reflect sunlight better, in turn making themsafer on the road.

Many people also use color psychology when decidingin order to best portray what they wish to others. For example, a red vehiclewill typically grab attention, a black vehicle can signal wealth, and a morenatural color such as beige will help your vehicle blend in better.

If you are re-painting an older vehicle, don’tforget that the specific names of paint colors may have changed since thevehicle was originally manufactured. This is especially important if you’retrying to match colors. In some cases, it may be a better option to have theentire vehicle painted in one color, although some body shops are able to createcustom colors.

Even if you aren’t one to follow popular opinion,it may be worth taking a moment to research which vehicle colors were chosenthe most recently. While style trends certainly come and go, and paint colorsare no different, there’s usually a reason so many people are choosing the samecolor. It may not always be a very good reason, but one that may be worthlooking into.

Finally, consider the type of vehicle you drive. Banana yellow may look great on a sports car, but not so much on a pickup truck. Likewise, a bright red paint may not be the correct choice for that family sedan.
